They needed to open for the Christmas holiday season.

Latitude Restaurant:
Sometimes the creative process of decision making about an interior's design conflicts with the business process, which focuses on profit and loss. In the case of Latitude Restaurant in Rohnert Park, turning the former Wine and Visitors Center into a restaurant which could open in time for the 2003 Christmas season was a challenge of meeting both the creative and business objectives.

Jim Murphy and Associates met the challenge by concentrating our own man-power on the project and coordinating the many subcontractors and suppliers, a lot of whom were under direct contract with the owners.

"Like many projects, this one had its challenges getting started," explained JMA Project Manager, Steve Ronchelli. "The goal of opening the restaurant for the holidays was in jeopardy. One of the creative ways JMA achieved the owners' goal, was to re-think the sequencing of the subcontractors' work. We had the subs and our own crew working very closely with each other, both figuratively and literally."

JMA held weekly meetings throughout the project and twice weekly meetings in the final month of construction. Through these meetings, the owner was kept updated on the schedule, the decisions that needed to be made, and the cost implications of each decision.

Due to the close communication with the owners, subcontractors, and the City of Rohnert Park officials, JMA was able to complete the remodeling, allowing the owners to reach their goal - the restaurant opened on December 6.

Observed Steve, "We saved the owners from losing the holiday revenue, which could have doomed the restaurant."
